This program is designed for the “do-it-yourselfer” who wants assistance and support in securing their own placement. The main feature of this program is FLEXIBILITY: candidates can find their own position in any area and the duration, start date, and location may be whatever you would like.

Program Requirements

Ranchstay is for the cowboy/cowgirl at heart looking to spend some time on a ranch or farm away from all the bright lights and big cities. Ranchstay is for people looking to learn something about the community where they are placed and farming in general. Ranchstay gives you the chance to get involved with an authentic farming family and their way of life, i.e. riding horses, driving the tractor etc. (depending on what is available). The program is not only about farming; it is a cultural exchange program where you get a real insight into local culture, mentality etc. The family takes you along when they visit neighbours, when they do their grocery shopping or when they go to events like rodeos, community festivals. It is not an easy life and everyone is expected to pitch in with all normal chores.

PROGRAM INCLUDES:

  • Pre-Screening Application Process

  • Possible Interview(s) with farmer prior to departure from home country
  • Farm Placement prior to departure from home country
  • Information on Accommodation and Transportation to the farm

If arriving and staying in Auckland candidates will receive:
  • Arrival Orientation with an INTERNeX representative on next business day - If not arriving and staying at least one business day (Monday – Friday excluding public holidays) in Auckland candidates will receive all of this information via email prior to arrival.

OPTIONAL INCLUSIONS:
  • INTERNeX Arrival package – includes transfer from Auckland airport to downtown hostel, 2 nights (more available on request) in 4 bed dorm (“female only” rooms available), Hostel membership, breakfast for each night staying at the hostel, and one free night to use at any other hostel around New Zealand.
  • 4 Weeks General English course at Auckland’s best language school (Business English and Cambridge course etc. also available)
  • Airport Reception and transfer to homestay (Auckland or Queenstown)

Program Requirements
    Participants must
  • Be available For at least 4– 52 weeks (12 –m 24 weeks is most common) Many Equestrian farmers want participants for the show season September – March.
  • Have at least an intermediate level of English so as to be able to communicate well with the farmer, his/her family and friends
  • Complete all required Application forms and submit all required documents in English including; resume (In Microsoft Word and in New Zealand format), letter of motivation / cover letter (In Word format) and any other documents that can help us learn more about you including any references, colour photographs (one photo with friends or family, one photo doing a sport or hobby and one photo at the work place) and any other relevant documents
  • Bring sturdy outdoor clothing
  • Be available for a skype interview with an INTERNeX Supervisor AND possibly, (although not that common) an interview with the farm owner prior to arrival to New Zealand.
  • Be flexible about their placement location and type of farm as the farmer is not able to meet the participants face-to-face prior to acceptance
  • Show enthusiasm and initiative, and be willing to really learn what life is like on a New Zealand farm
  • Not treat this like a guest farm, you are here to help out just as any other member of the family must also do.
  • Extensive horse experience means should be able to ride to a very high level on a full size horses, be able to jump at least 1 metres easily, preferably have some competitions experience and have a lot of stable experience and be confident with young horses.

This program gives you the chance to gain experience in the hospitality industry in world class resort communities or in metropolitan city centres. All interview preparation, resume assistance, etc is specific to the positions applied for and we will help you with each application until a position is arranged. The first decision for you would be if you want to work in a city such as Vancouver or Auckland or in a resort community such as the Rockies or Queenstown.Our City Program helps you with opportunities in coffee shops or restaurants which are secured after arrival since employers would like to meet you face to face before making a decision.Our Resort Program helps you secure a position in a world famous resort community prior to your arrival; these positions are very seasonal, meaning you will start at the beginning of season and stay until the end.

INTERNeX international exchange's Practicum Program gives you the chance to get real-world, hands-on specialized experience in almost any industry. The quality and level of your placement will depend on your experience, education, area of placement, time of year and duration of your placement. All placements are unpaid in order to ensure we have the chance to organize the best possible opportunity for you. Practicums (or internships) that are required for your post secondary education (i.e. university, college, apprenticeship or vocational/business school) can be in nearly any industry sector, placements that are voluntary (i.e. not a part of a structured academic program) may only be with Non-Profit, Non-Governmental or Charitable Organizations. Practicums are usually a combination of project-related and day-to-day activities in order for you to gain a fundamental overview of the organization and industry. We have run this program for 15 years and have assisted more than 10,000 international students in finding fulfilling experiences.
